In English my name doesn't have a particular meaning. However, in Arabic it means wisdom, knowledge and good judgement. It comes from the Arabic root h-k-m [p- -z] which is related to ruling, judgement, and having sound judgement. It is a very strong and powerful name for me. As it means wisdom, knowledge and good judgement, it carries deep power to people bearing the name. My mom told me that people bearing the name Hikmat tend to have a very strong thinking capacity and often have a high IQ. People bearing Hikmat tends to understand deep and think differently from the world too. The name carries respect and dignity because wisdom is one of the most admired qualities in every culture. I believe being named Hikmat is a gift from GOD [ALLAH] for the capacity to be able to think deeply, act rightly and guide others. In addition, I have a lot of other names which I really love. Because in Nigeria where I came from, people are given many names by everyone of the relatives. Some call me Funmilayo, which means give me joy in English, Titilayo which means forever is joy in English and so many other names that I do not even remember. Different people call me different name, especially the name each family member gave me. My mother calls me Titilayo at times, but she also calls me Hikmat sometimes because she gave me both and my grandma calls me Titilayo because she gave me the name. However, my main name, which I decided to be my main name is Hikmat, my first name.
